Craniosacral Therapy
PINKNEYS COURT CLINIC
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is a form of alternative therapy that involves gentle manipulation of the bones of the skull, spine, and pelvis to release tension and improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which surrounds the brain and spinal cord.
Gentle pressure to relieve stress and pain
Cranios Sacral Therapy is a remarkably gentle yet potent therapeutic approach based on the idea that the Craniosacral system, which includes the bones, soft tissues, and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, has its own rhythm and can be manipulated to promote healing. Once a restriction is discovered, subtle hands-on techniques are used to aid the patient in facilitating the release of the restriction.
The human body possesses an intrinsic capacity for healing. However, this potential can become compromised or depleted due to injuries, illnesses, trauma, and the effects of stress.
Craniosacral Therapy actively engages with these forces to amplify the body’s intrinsic healing abilities and to promote the restoration of health and the harmonisation of the body, mind, and spirit. This therapeutic approach addresses issues arising from birth patterns, injuries, illnesses, severe trauma, and the various physical and emotional stresses of life, often providing solutions when other methods fall short. It is a deeply transformative process.
What to Expect
What conditions can Craniosacral therapy help with?
CST is often used to address a wide range of conditions, including headaches, migraines, stress-related disorders, musculoskeletal pain, and emotional issues. It is also sometimes used as a complementary therapy for conditions like fibromyalgia, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Is Craniosacral therapy safe for everyone?
Craniosacral therapy is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and qualified practitioner. However, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as severe cranial or spinal injuries, bleeding disorders, or infections of the head and neck, should consult with a healthcare provider before undergoing CST to ensure it is appropriate for them.
How long does a typical Craniosacral therapy session last?
A typical CST session usually lasts around 45 to 60 minutes. However, the duration may vary depending on the individual’s needs and the specific techniques used by the practitioner. Some sessions may be shorter or longer as required.
What should I expect during a Craniosacral therapy session?
During a CST session, you can expect to lie fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner uses light touch to evaluate and address various points on your body, including the head, spine, and other areas. The touch is typically gentle and non-invasive. Most people find the experience relaxing, and it’s common to experience deep relaxation or even fall asleep during the session. The practitioner will work to promote balance and harmony within your body’s craniosacral system, which may involve subtle adjustments and energy work. The specific techniques used may vary depending on the practitioner’s training and approach. After the session, you may feel a sense of calm and well-being.
