Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a technique of inserting very thin needles through the skin at strategic points along meridians that rebalance the chi-energy flow of the body. It helps to relieve pain and stimulates nerves, muscles and connective tissue, supporting the body’s natural healing ability.
Pain relief and more
Acupuncture entails the activation of sensory nerves located beneath the skin and within the muscles, prompting the body to naturally produce substances like pain-relieving endorphins. These naturally occurring compounds are likely responsible for the positive effects associated with acupuncture.
Typically, a course of acupuncture is recommended, as it may require several sessions before noticeable improvements are observed.
Traditional acupuncture is rooted in the concept that a life force, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”), circulates through the body in pathways known as meridians.
Disruptions in the flow of Qi can lead to illness, and acupuncture can reestablish the proper flow of Qi, thus promoting overall health.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of health conditions.
Needles are carefully inserted into designated locations on the body referred to as acupuncture points.
These needles are incredibly fine, typically a few centimeters in length. All needles are single-use and pre-sterilised, with immediate disposal after use.
What to Expect
Needle Insertion
Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. These needles are typically hair-thin and are inserted gently by a licensed acupuncturist. The process is generally painless or may cause minimal discomfort.
Clothing Removal
During the treatment, you will generally be requested to either sit or recline. You may also be advised to remove certain clothing to enable the practitioner to access specific areas of your body.
Individualised Treatment
Acupuncture is a highly personalised therapy. During your initial consultation, the acupuncturist will assess your health history and current condition to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. This individualised approach may involve different acupuncture points and techniques.
Potential Benefits
Many people seek acupuncture for pain relief, stress reduction, and improved overall health. Research suggests that acupuncture may be effective for various conditions, including pain management, nausea, and anxiety. It is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner. However, results can vary, and it may take multiple sessions for optimal benefits.
Relaxation and Mind-Body Connection
Acupuncture sessions are often accompanied by a deep sense of relaxation. Some individuals experience a meditative or calming effect during treatment, which can help promote a stronger mind-body connection and reduce stress.
Potential Side Effects
While acupuncture is generally safe, some people may experience minor side effects such as slight bruising, soreness, or temporary dizziness. It’s essential to inform your acupuncturist about any discomfort or adverse reactions during or after the session, as we can adjust the treatment accordingly to ensure your comfort and safety.
